Many, many, many wires
The work happens almost entirely in the MIDI realm. And even though it's most likely to start with a rhythmic pattern, many times it could begin with a piano part or possibly a melody that sounds right for a viola or cello or guitar.
Keeping most of the material in the world of MIDI makes most alterations fast and easy. Just a few mouse clicks can change tempo or the length of a piece. String melody in a lower range? About a minute to change the voicing to a viola or cello and drop the melody an octave.
Most important, after many iterations of DAW and sample software and increasingly powerful hardware and controllers, The music creation process now proceeds effortlessly.

I have in the past used different DAW and recording software such as Sonar (and previous Cakewalk iterations), ProTools, Tape by Focusrite, FL Studio, Propellerhead Record, Acid, Tracktion, and Audacity. The depth and musicality of Cubase made me decide to use it as my exclusive DAW.
